The Carrington Reserve Residential Development has been selected by the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency and Chicago Wilderness for a 2010Conservation and Native Landscaping Award. The award recognizes the use of design techniques to reduce runoff, treat storm water, and promote ground water recharge to sustain high-quality fen and wet prairie habitats. In addition, riffles features built into the creek oxygenate and sustain aquatic life. Also of note is the development's 60 percent open space, protected in perpetuity by a conservation easement.
